Goldeneye with Mario Characters

It’s been a while since my last post, but this time I come with a good one. Just this past week, a team composed by StupidMarioBros1Fan, Graslu00, Carnivorous and Sogun. This is a mode for the Nintendo 64 where you can play 007 Goldeneye with Mario characters instead of the normal cast. You can find the download for the file itself over here. It’s a nice little mod that comes in the wake of the much larger Goldfinger mod from a few months ago.
About the mod
The game is what it says on the tin; it’s a mod of 007 Goldeneye with models from Super Mario 64. James Bond becomes Mario, Natasha becomes Peach, Tavelyan becomes Luigi… You get the drift. While in principle it’s a goofy idea, it’s quite a lot of fun to play.
The single player experience is a bit limited in the sense that 99% of the baddies that you’ll meet will be standard Koopas. The distinction between all the different regular Goldeneye soldiers is gone, and there are only Koopas and Koopas with sunglasses. The best part of this mode is when the cutscenes happen and you see a bit more of a variety of characters on screen.
The multiplayer mode on the other hand is more enhanced in my opinion since it truly shows the diversity of characters that you can play as. The best way to experience it is to see it for yourself though. Have a look at the trailer:
How to play Goldeneye with Mario Characters
Much like all the other Goldeneye mods, you need to get a hold of a Goldeneye ROM. Not all will work, mind you. So make sure that the one you get has a name like “GoldenEye 007 (U) [!].z64”, and it should be a NTSC/USA version. Then get the delta patcher and patch it with the patch found on the official download page. That should give you the playable ROM.
In order to get the ROM to run, you can do it on a real N64 game console (Expansion Pak required), or play the file in the 1964 emulator. I’ve been trying to get it to run in a PJ64 emulator to no avail. 🙁
