Goldeneye Source 5.0 now released

I’ve mentioned it a few times in the past like in last week’s post about the HD remake of Goldeneye for the Xbox 360, but I never really talked about Goldeneye Source properly before. Now that the a pretty darn good version has been released, I think I’ll mention it briefly here and go on about it in more detail at a later date when I had more of a chance to play through it. In any case, this post is going to be about Goldeneye Source 5.0.

First of all, if you want to download it, you can find the mod source and instructions here. It’s based on the Source engine made popular with many of Valve’s FPS games like Counterstrike: Source, Half Life 2 and Portal. So if you like the control in those games, you’ll feel right at home here.

I tried to play version 4.3 in the past, but it never really caught my eye because there wasn’t many players there at the time and it looked unfinished. However, goddamn. This is beautiful. Since the disappointing reveal of the HD Goldeneye game, this gives players the opportunity to play it without depending on the archaic Nintendo 64 controls.

That’s about it for now, just a quick update. A more detailed overview of Goldeneye Source 5.0 (or later versions) should be in the pipeline.
