T-Shirt

T-Shirt is a Nintendo 64 homebrew demo released 11 March 1998 by Neptune and Steve. The demo was originally made for the Presence of Mind competition in 1998.

You can download the ROM and associated files from here, using the password “neptunesteve”.

The demo (as admitted by the creators) is the laziest demo there is, possibly on par with Absolute Crap. It was made in one day, just so that the creators could qualify for a free T-shirt that came with entring the upcoming Presence of Mind competition.

We are sorry. We really are. We didnt mean for this to happen. We decided not to enter POM.. ..as we knew we didn’t have the time.. ..to do anything decent. But then.. Two days before the deadline.. ..We realised that you get a free T-shirt.. for participating in POM. And neither of us have clean clothes. So we had to do this. This is Neptune and Steve saying.. Sorry.

ANTIHERO and CAMELOT N64 presents “T-Shirt – This Time Its Personal”
– A really sick demo for Presence Of Mind 98.
Hello again. The dynamic duo, Neptune and Steve, are back with
another strange demo release for your N64.
Programming by Steve. Graphics and Tools converting by Neptune.
Originally we had no plans of participating in the worlds first
N64 underground programming competition – But when we, 2 days
ago, realized that you get a free T-Shirt for participating..
Well what could we do.
We quickly slammed some shit together, and this is what this
is. Its nothing. Yet something.
I guess there’s not much more to say. Dont take this demo
serious in any way, but have a good laugh and cross your
fingers and hope for us to be getting 2 T-Shirts from the
lovely Dextrose people!! Hehe..
Since our last release (Shagadelic/Camelot), some things have
happened which have resulted in me (Steve) leaving Camelot.
I have instead teamed up with Antihero, and hopefully you will
sometime get to see (more) cool stuff from Antihero.
Neptune is still in Camelot.
The demo works with PAL, MPAL and NTSC machines.
Very special greetings to the following people:
Hartec & Actraiser (Dextrose is and will probably continue
to be the only important N64 site..
keep up the good work, and stay cool!)
Locke (Again this is a demo that would never
have been done without Ultra.. So thanx
for that)
Oman (Hope the months will pass quickly)
NiL (Fave SiteOp!!!! 🙂
Titanik (Bad mean ass cracker – Hurry up with
1080, and keep loving C64 stuff! 🙂
Ste (Good luck with POM 😉
And hi’s to all the other cool N64 dudes around:
Trilili, Frac, Jovis, Nagra, Stan, Widget, Kid Stardust, Lem,
Count0, Presten, BreakPoint, Oman, Immortal, Stage ..
and the rest .. U know who you are!!
Kisses to Vic aswell. Not.
Anyway. Thats all for now. Anyone wanting to get in touch with
us should e-mail [redacted by n64squid] (Steve) or
[redacted by n64squid] (Neptune). ..or you could try IRC!
L8r..
Neptune & Steve.

  `ÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ'

The demo begins with lonely text. This text scrolls appears bit by bit, one at a time to give it a bit of a dramatic flair. In this section they explain the purpose of the demo: They need a new T-shirt because they don’t have any clean clothes.

They then go on to show the title card illustrated by Neptune:

The demo then finishes off with a blue rotating spiky ball thingy with some scrolling wavy marquee text. When the text finishes, it then starts scrolling in reverse. It’s a bit hard to read the text because of how fast it waves.

I know I called it lazy before, but some effort did go into it. Since they managed to get this all done within one day, I assume that they just took a previous project and slapped a new coat of paint on it.

The trippy blue thing is nice to look at and the intro text is pretty funny. One thing that I found kind of stange when transcribing this demo is that the ellipses (both in the intro and marquee) had only two dots rather than three. Also there were never any apostrophes. Kinda odd.

The attached files mention some drama about people leaving different development teams. I hope they’re all doing good now.
