Untitled Racing Game

Untitled Racing Game is a homebrew game by Team Turtledove. As the name implies, it’s an unfinished game that somewhat resembles a racing game. It was released on 02 Feb 2026 for the 2025 64brew Game Jam.

You can get the ROM from its download page by using the password racingblocksiguess. You can also get it from Drive, and check the source code on Github.

About Untitled Racing Game

There really isn’t much to this game at all. It barely has any graphics, and it barely has any gameplay. You start with a grid of 2×4 squares, and you can change their colour before the race starts. Once the race begins, the bundle of blocks converts to a 2x2x2 cube and it moves along a fixed track. You can alter its position along the path by steering, but you’ll always complete the loop without any obstacles. That’s all there is to it.

With a game like this, it’s worth mentioning what was actually mean to be built. Team Turtledove provided a handy design doc and lore dump which give a bit more context.

Story

None of this is in the game itself, it call comes from the lore doc.

You’ve dreamed of entering the Arimadian Athlon for years, but poverty and no transport kept you out. A rich friend eventually gives you an old, barely functioning landcruiser, letting you enter the Classics division, though the vehicle is in terrible condition and you’re counting on race winnings to repair it.

At the jungle track, most racers have rough vehicles too, except Edmund Opiula, a rich, arrogant rival with a pristine restoration. After mocking your battered cruiser and predicting your failure, he only strengthens your determination to prove him wrong.

Design intention

The game uses a simple, deterministic system focused on building, racing, and collisions rather than realistic physics. Players build a 2×2×2 hovercraft from parts that affect speed, acceleration, steering, or collision advantage.

During races, players steer and rotate the craft to choose which face collides. Face colors determine dice bonuses, and the winner of a collision steals a part from the loser. Winning races earns new parts, while losing collisions damages your build, creating a loop of upgrading your craft from salvaged rivals.

Review and conclusion

It’s hard to say much about Untitled Racing Game because of how incomplete it is. There is no gameplay loop, challenge or obstacles. There’s barely any interactivity at all.

At the end of the day, they did say that they were short on time and had to cut corners where they could. It still is an achievement to get anything out by the deadline, especially a 3D game when it’s your first time.

There hasn’t been any updates to the repo in the few months since the end of the competition, so it’s unlikely we’ll see the end of what would have been a pretty interesting idea.
