The Big fix is a homebrew game by Shootfast where you have to use your wits to find a killer. It’s an unfinished game so you can only play through the intro. It was released on 02 Feb 2026 for the 2025 64Brew game jam.

About The Big Fix

This game has you play as a dog-tective solving a murder mystery. It follows all the classic film noir tropes: it’s on Friday the 13th when a dame knocks on your door to solve the mystery of her murdered husband the repairman. The police refuse to help since they’re calling it an accident. You agree to help, and she says that her driver will take you to the crime scene.

You take control of your character after this cutscene and move around your office using tank-style controls with two camera angles in the room. There are a few objects on the wall that you can look at but not much else.

You then pick up your coat and head to the door when you get an alert saying:

Thanks for playing!

And that’s it. The game is over before it gets started.

Review and conclusion

While the most obvious point in this game is its brevity, that doesn’t take away from what those two minutes bring to the table. It is one of the few homebrew games that has an into cinematic with a plot, even if the characters are static.

The humour does shine through brilliantly too. The characters being dogs put into this serious noir environment, and the cliché storyline are without a doubt going to put a smile on your face.

The tank controls are a bit awkward at the start and there isn’t much to do so it doesn’t affect the gameplay that much. The graphics are clear and all the models are detailed, so at least you have something to look at.

I would love to see this project completed. A walking simulator where you have to find clues and interrogate suspects is something that the N64 homebrew scene desperately needs.
