Star Strike 64
Can you make it all the way to the sun and back to Mercury while fighting off all sorts of space robots? Now you can in Star Strike 64, a homebrew game released by Parker Allan on 8 Feb 2026.
You can download the ROM from the download page by using the password strikethestars. You can also check the source code on GitHub, where the game is available as well.
About Star Strike 64
In this game, you control a flying mech as it journeys across the Solar System, with each level taking place on a different planet. Much like Gyruss or Star Fox 64 / Lylat Wars, the game progresses from world to world through the Solar System:
- Deep Space: Small ships
- Mars: Plane boss
- Jupiter: Small ships
- Sun: Grey/green mecha
- Mercury: Grey/yellow mecha

Similarly, it plays like a third-person 3D shoot-’em-up in the style of Star Fox 64, Except that each level contains only one kind of enemy – either a gauntlet of smaller ships or a giant mecha robot (or airplane).
You get three hit points to make your way through each level, but there isn’t really any punishment for dying. You just get sent back to the start of the level.

Review and conclusion
If you’ve played Star Fox 64, you’ll know exactly what to expect in Star Strike 64. This is just a bit more of a early-build proof of concept for the genre.
Taking down the small ships levels are all about timing movement between shots, and the boss levels require you to learn their (simple) patterns. All but the Mars boss can just be sniped from a safe spot.

I love the backgrounds in this game. The spinning space in the first level looks really good, and the rest look like a rolling barrel which is kind of silly yet endearing.
All the character models appear to be mostly untextured, giving them a very flat feel. This is counter-balanced by them being fairly high-poly (for the N64)
Give Star Strike 64 a go, it’s one of a kind for this genre in the Homebrew scene so far. It’s a bit clunky around the edges, but its short runtime keeps those rough spots from overstaying their welcome.
