N64 ties in 3rd place with SNES on Amazon

On the 5th of October, a tournament on Amazon  finalised where users voted on various consoles tournament-style. The consoles involved were all the ones from Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony, Sega and the Atari 2600. This excludes some of the less popular consoles such as the Sega Master System and Saturn, as well as pretty much every Atari console that isn’t the 2600 and the Nintendo TV games.

This is of course, won by popular vote, so the winner is the one that people like the most.

As you can see, there are 16 contenders, and the final round was decided by a battle between the PS1 and the PS2, with the PS2 winning 69%-31% against the PS1.

The Nintendo 64 in the Amazon Tournament

The Nintendo 64 did quite well in the competition. Here is its trajectory through fame:

  1. Nintendo 64 vs Xbox (original): 71% / 29%.
  2. Nintendo 64 vs Mega Drive/Genesis: 62% / 38%.
  3. Nintendo 64 vs Playstation 2: 34% / 66%.

The N64 survived until the semifinals, meaning that it tied in 3rd place along with the Super Nintendo. Here is the only mention of the N64’s success: Goldeneye was the main reason for voting for the Nintendo 64. That’s about it.
