Super Captain Falcon 64
Super Captain Falcon 64 is a Nintendo 64 hack of Super Mario 64 made by Pasta Power and Blakeoramo and released in November 2020 where you get to play as Captain Falcon. Now this isn’t just your grandmother’s hack of Super Mario 64, this Captain Falcon is going to show you his moves.
You can download the ROM and source code from the download page for the hack by using the password showyourmoves64
. There’s two files there, the official patch and the N64 Squid patch. I couldn’t get the official patch to work with any of my ROMs so I made my own. Use the N64 Squid patch with Super Mario 64 (U) [!].z64

Super Captain Falcon 64 brings in a few new moves to the table, including:
- Knee of Justice
- Falcon Kick
- Falcon Punch
The Knee of Justice is (as far as I know) just a replacement for the air kick. It doesn’t launch things further away, the original kick was pretty powerful to begin with.
Falcon kick is a very powerful kick that launches Captain Falcon straight forward. The change in momentum defies the laws of physics, but such is the power of the Falcon.
The Falcon Punch is where this hack of SM64 really shines. Hold the L button to charge and send your opponents packing. This punch will destroy enemies, doors and even essential items, so it is possible to use it to advance through the game as well as to softlock it. I tried to be funny by punching through bosses or a key only to make it so that I can’t complete a stage. It does remove all star requirement doors though.
Captain Falcon also has the ability to sprint at super fast speeds after running for a few seconds, which makes him very hard to control for long stretching platforms.
Overall, this is a fun little hack that puts Super Mario 64 in a new light. The Falcon Punch is a lot of fun to use and abuse to skip ahead in the game. Honestly, you can use it to just skip to all the Bowsers without getting any stars (besides the Dire Dire Docks one). The key doors don’t load the next screen when you break them, so you do need to defeat the bowsers in sequence to make progress.
That said, Super Captain Falcon 64 is quite difficult to complete mostly because of the speed at which you move. It can be fun to run around Bob-omb Battlefied and perform Falcon Kicks till the cows come home, but it took me 10 tries to get past the balance bridge after the chain chomp. I’m not kidding. I don’t see how the speed can help in levels that are a lot tighter like Rainbow Ride or Tick Tock Clock except as an extra challenge for people who can beat the game on muscle memory alone.
A fun mod, do give it a try and see how you can exploit the punch and kick to find new shortcuts in Super Mario 64.
