Moonfish
Moonfish is a homebrew game for the Nintendo 64 where you manage an aquarium with various fish in it. It was made by Team GTvLC and released on 02 Feb 2026 for the 2025 64brew Game Jam.
You can get the ROM from its download page by using the password seaman. You can also get it from Drive, or see the source code on Github.
About Moonfish
This is an aquarium simulator, plain and simple. Fish swim around in the tank, and it’s up to you to keep them fed.
You can feed the fish by dropping some kibble into the tank. Each drop will cost you 5 moneys, but if the fish eats it you’ll get your money back and then some.

Pressing the L and R buttons rotates you around the room. Two of the other walls are empty, but the one to the right of the aquarium has a store where you can buy more fish. These are the fish you have available for purchase (even though they’re all labelled ‘text’):
- Mullet
- Sunfish
- Betta
- Tang
- Quad
- Salmon
- Gar
- Clownfish
- Evil Toad
That’s all there is to it. The fish grow bigger as you feed them, and sometimes they disappear, I think it’s because they either die or are eaten by other fish.
There’s no objective besides not running out of money, or maybe trying to make the biggest fish possible, but it’s unclear.

Review and conclusion
This is one of those projects that dances around the line between what can be counted as a demo and what is elevated to be a game. It is definitely incomplete, like the creators had plans for something big, but had to cut it short due to the Jam’s deadline.
For what it is, it’s a decent first attempt at making a game, and it might even turn out to be a decent passive ‘idle’ game that doubles as a screensaver for your TV. It shows some initiative in working with 3D environments, and that’s a pretty promising start for the team’s first project.
As it stands, Moonfish doesn’t offer much. It may be worth a look out of curiosity, but it feels more like an unfinished concept than a complete experience, despite some underlying potential.
