Cliffi’s Little Intro
Cliffi’s Little Intro is a homebrew demo by Cliffi (obviously) released on 25 April 1999. It’s a fairly basic marquee scroller. It was originally submitted for the Presence of Mind ’99 contest, where it won 15th place.
You can get the ROM from its download page by using the password richardi.
About Cliffi’s Little Intro

This is probably the simplest submission for POM99. It’s the only marquee-based entry, making it extremely basic compared to other demos of the era.
It consists of a rotating 3D model on the top of the screen that has the word “Cliffi” on it. It has an interesting marbled hyperspace texture on it.
The bottom third of the screen has Cartman, Kyle, Stan and Kenny from South Park. This demo was released a few months before the movie Bigger Longer and Uncut so it was still rising towards the peak of its popularity.
The middle has the typical marquee common in a lot of demos. I read through the whole thing but it doesn’t say very much.

Hidiho… Here is Cliffi. You are watching a little intro coded for POM99. First of all some special thanx to some people: LaC, Steve–, Frac, Count0, Nep-CML, Ned F., Rico, Cforman, Dynamix, and all others who released source-codes and the Dextrose guys for POM99… The song you are listening to is from NGS. More greetings at the end so you have to read this crap :J I am sorry to present you only this little intro, but due the lack of time, nothing more is possible at the moment… But I think in the future I’ll do some more stuff. Ok… What can I say here? Meet me on IRC. Alright. Here are the greetz: Greetings go to (in no special order): Ned Flanders (www.flanders.de), all members of Warehouse, Steve–, Nep-CML, Count0, LaC, Frac, Illusion, Kosmo Kage, Kelv, Earthq, Ryst, High-society, Rico, Darkman, Busteroo, Seven, Tom, Unit, Peter, 200KA, Renderman, Lomaxx, Croc, Madeirag, Bull, Guardian, Eurasia, Nil, Ags, NBC, NDT, Sage, Metzlers, Speedy, Biko, Cforman, Dextrose, Dines, Kid Stardust, Agima, US-Softy TNW, All N64 coders and all I forgot.. Sorry, but I am a old man, loosing my mind… hehe, or perhaps its the alcohol……. South Park rules!! Still there? Ok I am ready to log off… It’s late Sat 25.04.99… Ok I am signing off… Want to visit me? Come to Irish Pub, Wittlich… CU…. End.
There isn’t much interesting info to ascertain from the demo’s crawler or its readme. There is a link to flanders.de, which at the time was an in-construction site but later around 2004 became an online shop that sold gamecube-era games, consoles and d accessories, and also did repairs.
There’s also mention of an Irish Pub in Wittlich. It could be refer to the Old White Rabbit pub, or some other pub that has since closed down.
Both are based in Wittlich, so take it as you will.
Review and conclusion
This is possibly the most underwhelming submission for POM99. Well, you also have the unfinished Alleycat and Super Bomberman 2 or Oerjan’s Intro or even the Analog Test Utility but at least they had a little bit of an interesting visual effect.
Cliffi’s Little Intro does have a bit of text that provides some context to it, but even then it’s just 90% greetz and filler.
It was a little fun to find that old console shop as it contrasts pretty heavily to the kind of online shops you find nowadays, but that’s about it.

At least Cliffi later contributed to Shufflepuck 64, which is nice.
