Original advertisement for POM ’98
On 28th of January 1998, Dextrose is celebrating one year of existence.
During the last twelve months Dextrose developed to the most popular and most often imitated Website regarding Information on N64 development and backup hardware. Dextrose always tried to provide everyone with the latest Tools, Demos, News and Rumours as soon as they were available, and we think we often succeeded.
Now after over 150.000 Hits and one year of hard work, we especially want to thank the group of people to whom Dextrose is most thankful, the innovative Coders of the N64-Scene.
We think it’s the right time to initiate the worldfirst N64 Demo Competition, as we are sure the coders may want to contribute to a real challenge to show their best abilities.
Is it worth the trouble?
To encourage the competitors Bung Enterprise Ltd. provides us with valueable prizes to reward your efforts.
The Winner of “Presence of Mind ’98” will receive a brandnew Doctor V64 incl 256Mbits of Ram along with the new hardware manifactured by Bung Enterprises, a DX256 as well as a DP4.
The best following nine entries will receive a package including a DX256 and a DP4.
We hope this will motivate you to even exceed your coding limits and show new and innovative art of coding.
What do we expect?
What we actually like to see is a demo, a game or an innovative utility which is working on N64. The demos should differ from simple intros (e.g. logo and simple scroller), also we would like to experience new effects and innovative ideas. Talking about a game, it is really upon you what catogory you choose, may it be another tetris-clone or a highend shooter. We are sure, you can beat a lot of the wellpaid established software houses :). Also in tools, we set no limit to your creativity, whether it is any kind of emulation, music player or anything else you think can delight the audience. Be sure, the jury will judge all entries most fair. Please notice that we like to see a hint or note in your work that it is dedicated to the Dextrose Demo Competition “Presence of Mind ’98”.
How to Register
All competitors must send us their work until the 28th of January 1998. We think it’s enough time to create something which deserves a prize. All entries may not be released before the competition results are made public on Dextrose. All entries will be published on Dextrose for download, so all freaks may enjoy your work.
NOTE: NEW DEADLINE, EXTENDED TO 28TH OF FEBRUARY !
All coders who like to join the competition must register at [email protected]. Everybody who is not in the jury may enter the competition. You will receive the login information to our Competiton-Server where all entries can be uploaded to. Note, that noone except us has read-access to this server, so your work will stay secure there until its release on Dextrose. Also every competitor will receive his very own directory for only he can access it by using his personal login information. No other directory can be accessed or listed. So the list of competitor will not be unveiled until anniversary day.
We hope to see a great number of entries. Do your best. Good luck !
Winners
(This is the original page for the submission results, these are all 10 entries that were submitted)
Finally it’s POM-DAY! 🙂
Before scrolling down , please read the following lines !
First, I like to THANK all Coders and people who were involved in all this.
As a matter of fact not all registered competitors got their work done in time. Most of them will
release their creation in the next days / weeks anyways. Can’t wait for that !
But after all we got 10 Entries, and that means also 10 Winners, who will receive a bunch of neat
prizes ! Have fun with them.
Decision was of course very hard, and I am sure not only we but also the coders like to read your
comments about their productions, the ranking and pom in general on the Guestbook ! Use it !
The Judges were : Redbox, Stan, Hartec, Lac and me.
Everyone of us made a personal Top 10 out of the entries. After that we counted the Top 10’s together.
First Place got one point in each Top 10, Second Place got two points, etc. So in the Final Top 10 the entry with
the smallest number of points was of course first and won.
I think this is a fair voting.
Now go watch the great productions of the N64-Coding-Scene for Presence of Mind ’98 !
