About Happy Little Frog Game

This is technically an incomplete game, but it still has a certain degree of ‘completeness’ to it. You play as a happy little frog (obviously), and you need to eat 20 flies in a 3D square play area. There are a few obstacles like lily pads and springs that you can jump on, but they are unnecessary to complete the game since all flies are floor-level.

The flies move around randomly, and I really mean randomly. It seems like every frame/tick they pick a random direction and move there. They feel more like atoms moving in Brownian motion than flie to be honest.

Once you catch all the flies, you get an alert that you caught all of them and can continue to roam freely. I found that your jump height diminishes a bit after completing the game, so you can’t jump high enough to land on the springs anymore.

Review and conclusion

For what is essentially labelled as a V0.1 game, it really is as complete as it gets. Honestly all it needs is a wrapper to loopify it. Give it a menu, some levels with increased difficulty and a congratulations screen and it’s good to go.

The only more complicated thing to add would be a lose condition, and 3D fly movement to take advantage of the available platforming.

It’s a fun little distraction. It works well and doesn’t ask too much from you. Just make sure you don’t ask too much back.
